On Friday, May 20th, Tommy fell from the 3rd story balcony of his apartment building. He was rushed to the ER at Cedar's Sanai Medical Center. A CAT Scan found multiples breaks present in his: pelvis, right arm, right wrist, right elbow, right leg, his spine, there is nerve issues causing him major pain to his left leg and his left arm is very swollen. Luckily for him, one of the parts that isn't broken on him is his head. For some reason that was spared during the fall, although he's got lacerations on his face.
An MRI was taken today and will give the doctors the details they need to put the plan in place for how to put back together. It was a tremendous fall. He's lucky to be alive. The level of pain they are trying to manage is, as he put it, a 12. What would be best in such a traumatic case like this is to put him out for 3 days to let his body get over the shock of what happened, but that's not an option because they want him lucid and able to answer questions every hour or so. This allows them to understand if there is a decline in his condition due to the possibility of an undetected brain bleed. It is also important that he can perform the request to move his fingers and toes on both hands and feet. Which, remarkably, he can.
This blog will allow me to update his friends and our family. We are all waiting to see how he does. Myself (Lorrie), Cara, our family, even the doctors. When there's such a trauma to the body, the plan is revealed as the body tries to heal itself and they see what is to come first. What will hold up what.
